Everything is thriving this month and just growing at a crazy rate. We're so excited to start harvesting some of the crops. So far we are making all of our meals out of spinach & rhubarb whilst it's growing at the speed of light.
Ooo and some chickens moved in as our new neighbours. How cutttte are these guys!

May has been just wonderful. The sun has finally come out and the flowers have started to bloom. We've been able to eat rocket & spinach from our own garden & had a home full of beautiful sunflowers. The veg is all coming on nicely and we're so excited for June and hopefully no crazy bug infestations will put an end to this run of great gardening.

Last year we used the flower bed down the side of the garden for growing all of the courgettes. This year however we have an allotment so this side bed has taken a little thought to what we want to live here. I hate the wire fence that goes up the side of the garden but I do love the light it brings. We do want to create a little privacy too so decided on growing a selection of plants that will give as much coverage whilst looking beautiful all year round.
We dug up the entire bed and removed all the weeds. We pressed down the soil then placed weed fabric on the top stapling it to the fence and border wood we've placed down. Placing in the rose bush & shrubs along the border and then covering in bark.
I can't wait for the plants to really take hold - we've chosen different varieties that are all a mixture of greens & whites which will really look wonderful once grown.

I have a habit of picking up pretty cushions when there on sale and ended up with about 10 of them on my sofa about a month ago. I visited M&S when they were having a 20% off home event and just fell head over heels with these velvet navy cushions. They are the softest things I've ever felt. I also picked up this beautiful square waffle cushion to finish off our bed.
Loving my sofa now with just three beautiful cushions on it. Everything looks so much neater now. And so much softer.

Whilst our porch is home to all the seedlings not all of our pots the prettiest. However I have picked up some nice ones among all of the chaos for the plants that will find their forever homes in our house all summer long. I found Ikea to have the prettiest pots around for the best prices. The senap pots with saucers are an amazing price coming in at 2 or 3 pound with saucer. The satsuma plant stand is also a great buy to add a little space off of the window sill. I think it will make a nicer display of the pink pots out of season too with a little basil & rosemary ready for cooking in the cooler months.

With my wine glass rack up I've been able to sort out my open shelves a little more and make the copper accessories sit neatly on them now. I love a good shelfie and this is probably my favourite one yet.

We've finally pulled some money together to re-carpet the stairs. I don't particularly like carpet so I knew choosing one wouldn't be easy. However finding one I like that coordinated with the mid-toned blue grey on my hallway walls is near impossible. What's the answer to that - ooo yeah standardly paint tester pots all over the wall and re-paint it. To be honest I've fallen out of love with the colour we chose for the hall anyways and I do wish we'd chosen something much fresher. So this is the current state of my hallway. Each time I walk past I'll be removing ones that don't quite work hoping to whittle it down to the final colour choice. If I'm completely honest some of the colours on the wall aren't in the running at all but the Valspar names made me giggle in the shop so they made it on the wall to add a little fun into choosing.

I whole heartedly stole the idea for this wine glass rack from staring at my friend's adoringly during many a dinner party. When I decided I wanted my glasses on open shelves and ripped out the wall cabinets that were in their place I underestimated how many types of glasses I actually have. Having different glasses for white wine, red wine, prosecco, margarita & martini left me with little space to actually put the glasses we drink out of on a regular basis.
This wine rack is the perfect solution. Hanging my glasses upside down means they don't collect dust which is perfect for their infrequent use. I picked this one up from the John Lewis website for £35.

It really hit me last month that I'm really quite old these days. It was end of year bonus month and I always make sure I treat myself to something I really want each year. Previously it's been an eye shadow palette I really wanted or the posh skin care range I haven't been able to justify before.
This year at the wise old age of 27 I treated myself to a Karcher pressure washer. I am in love.
I've pressure washed everything I can although I'm saving the little patio at the back of the house for a really sunny day. The difference it makes it unbelievable this is without any chemicals just the water. I guess this post is really to remind my older self of the year I got old - because it's happened I'm officially delighted with my pressure washer.

You see that sneaky bit of yellow carpet on the bottom of the stairs there - that beauty was all over my hallway floor. I hated it. Operation destroy it has commenced. Luckily Steve is between jobs and has a little time off as we've been putting it off for months due to the many corners & indents that needed to be cut out of the flooring to make it perfect. I am so happy with the final result though it's completely opened up the space. Now we just need to find the perfect carpet to get it ripped off the stairs & finally all be gone from our house. I also need to find a floor trim that matches the tone of this floor to finish it off perfectly post carpet lay. So happy it's freshened it up so much and really made all the hard work we put into to painting this space feel a little more worthwhile.

Our front porch is also a bit of a conservatory and has a polygon shape to it that I'm trying to make the common theme in our house. To create the feel that having a conservatory on the front of your house is completely normal. My current obsession is working out which hexagon tiles I can put pretty much everywhere. My first project is covering our table top in them - which ones to pick though. The small size makes them perfect for small craft projects & creating extra interest too quite standard items that need a bit of a facelift.
This year tiling the bathroom floor properly is a big aim so the theme will probably carry on their too. Along with that I've been picking up coasters & other accessories to fill my home with.

The Ikea Bekvam spice racks are ideal little shelves for around the home. At only 10cm deep they can be put pretty much anywhere & come in so handy for so many things without getting in the way. I spray painted them all matt white as the birch finish they come in doesn't go with anything in our house. I popped three in the kitchen for spices & oils that were always getting knocked over in overcrowded cupboards. I also put two up above my dressing table to house glass bottles, foundation that needs to be stood up & every day skin care. At only £3 each they're such a great way to add extra storage for those little things you reach for everyday.

Last year I spent a small fortune on just grabbing a bunch of flowers everytime I did the weekly food shop. This year I want to be more savvy with my money and those little £5's really do add up. I also want more plants in the house so if the need to buy some flowers comes over me I've made the strict resolution to not and to pick up a little plant that will last a lot longer. Luckily for me supermarkets have started stocking succulents so I can create a maintenance free little green collection. Here's a few I picked up in January.

When I was little I had this friend that always smelt of vanilla - her mum washed their clothes in it, filled their house with vanilla pot pourri and candles - they all always smelt of it. I always thought I want to be like that have one scent that my family and my home always smell of. I've always loved coconut and in recent years my body sprays, perfumes & shower products all have coconut in them. I'm yet to find anyone that hates the smell of coconut and it reminds me of happier sunnier climates.
I'm currently loving the pineapple & coconut range from primark. It has a lovely sweet pina colada smell that fills you home with summery vibes (currently searching for a holiday whilst it burns.) I'm also obsessed with the Yankee Candle scent black coconut. It's my number one home fragrance scent - I want to stock up on candles so I can burn it continuously every evening.

My spare bedroom is kind of a room of everything. I have all my make-up, dressing table etc in their along with my sewing machine & craft bits too. It's the room I do most of my organising in & is where I get ready for work so it needs to have all of life's reminders in too. I considered a pin board for a while but find them a little messy and then came across this idea of having a wire memo board to clip cards, save the dates & tickets too. There are some stupidly pretty ones on the internet but ones that also cost a fortune. I luckily found this framed one in Primark for £6. It was originally a coppery brown tone so I spray painted it white to make it match the room. I'm so happy with it. It needs a few paint touch ups but I was impatient to get it on the wall I couldn't wait.

I weirdly love coming across a beautifully displayed shelf. I actually have an entire pinterest board dedicated to beautiful shelves. This is a work in progress amongst my Flamingo spare bed room. I have a gold, marble & white theme which I wanted to continue in the shelving. I didn't particularly need a shelf in this space but I did need to break up a large space of white wall and definitely didn't need another mirror in there. I spray painted some classic wooden shelf brackets gold and placed a standard white shelf board from B&Q on top of it. I haven't bought anything for it yet as I'm not sure what it's final use will be so I placed some off cuts of the wall paper in frames to balance it out. Some marble vinyl in an A3 frame behind some trinkets I had lying around.
It's a work in progress as I'd like to place from frames on the wall behind it and bring in some small mirrored items in front to add depth but I'm happy with it for now.

Picked up quite a few bits for the house in the January sales this month - most of which I had my eye on when they were full price - winning!
Fur Cushion Covers - Unscented Gold Candle - Bear Candlestick - Gold Mirror - Moss Knit Cushions - M&S Large 3 Wick Candle - Marble Soap Dispenser from HomseSense

I love the colours in my kitchen but it was quickly becoming a sea of grey, white & marbles with the odd flash of metallic thrown in. I needed a little colour on this large white wall to break it up a little. I found these chalkboard prints by Lily & Val and just fell in love. I framed them in the Fiskbo white Ikea frames that were just £1.50. They are our four favorite cocktails - not only do they look good it's pretty handy to have the recipes to hand on the wall like this when having drinks with friends too.

The main house renovation I want to complete before Summer comes is ripping out our current stair case and put in proper spindles & carpet that isn't yellow! Here's some of my current inspiration for what I want to achieve (all photo's from Pinterest) Saving all of my dream hallways here whilst I work out how I'm going to do it.

I love the start of a new year it's a chance to have a good clear out, work out what my 2017 goals are & make plans for the next 12 months. 2016 was a great year for us we ticked so much off of our house to do list and it's lovely to be in a more relaxed DIY space for this year. The beginning of last year was a mad whirlwind of removing wallpaper, sanding, filling & painting everything white pretty much every weekend & evening we had a spare few hours. It's so lovely to this year start enjoying the little space we've made home and not be so urgent about house updates as I can happily sit here knowing there isn't a spot of cream within these walls.
We're obviously not finished though & I guess we never will be there's always some design or colour I want to give a go for us the main tick list for 2017 is:
- Rip out the current solid paneled stair case & replace with spindles & a simple wooden handrail
- Put laminate flooring in the downstairs hallway
- Have stairs & upstairs hall carpeted in something that isn't yellow!
- Create floor to ceiling 'pantry style larder' in the kitchen
- Create a cupboard around the boiler
- Paint kitchen floor
- Tile bathroom floor
There's obviously lots of smaller projects I'd like to do as well like change curtain rails, update all of the light switches & fixings that are left but above is the main focus for the year.
So excited for 2017 I have a good feeling about this year!

I love the built in storage in my bathroom for it's practicality but it's not completely to my style. I eventually want to remove the shaker door fronts and change them to slab gloss doors. However they aren't offensive or top of my priority list. I did however see these beautiful door handles in M&S for just £3.50 each and thought they'd make a nice change compared with the little white plastic ones on the cupboards before.
